The new ObservaTUR report has been released!

The latest ObservaTUR report for this winter break is now available. This report, which took into account the opinions of more than 5,000 travel agencies to analyze the habits and behaviors of Spanish tourists, is the second of the year following the one released in the summer, and the fourth overall when including the two reports from 2018.

As was to be expected, given that Beroni is one of the study’s sponsors, our CEO Josep Bellés and our Commercial Director Ingrid Graells attended the presentation of this fourth ObservaTUR Report. The presentation was attended by numerous media outlets, both general and specialized, and the sponsors of the National Observatory of Outbound Tourism (ObservaTUR) were able to explain the conclusions drawn from the report and their vision for the future of the tourism sector in Spain, as well as answer questions from the media.

Thanks to the study, companies in the Spanish tourism sector can draw some conclusions that will allow them to anticipate tourist trends and habits for this winter vacation season; there is some concern about the slowdown observed in the number of bookings compared to the same period last year. The political and economic uncertainty currently affecting Spain is causing companies and professionals in the tourism sector to view the start of the new year with a certain degree of pessimism. Even so, this slowdown is moderate; experts do not see cause for alarm and remain confident in the sector.

Other trends that have been observed include, for example, the fact that Spanish travelers book their vacations at very short notice and their stays at their destinations are shorter than in previous seasons. Bookings for domestic destinations remain relatively stable, but the same cannot be said for international destinations, which are experiencing a clear decline.

But if there are clear trends for the future, they are undoubtedly personalization and sustainable travel. Spanish travelers are increasingly opting for tailor-made trips that include various activities at the destination in advance, allowing tourists to enjoy as many experiences as possible while avoiding wasted time on travel. At Beroni, we identified this trend some time ago, and that is why we are working to launch the Activities engine for our Wasabi-s clients in January 2020.

When it comes to sustainable travel, the eco-travel trend will continue to grow, targeting travelers who seek destinations where the environment is protected and where cuisine is a key distinguishing feature.

As always, we at Beroni are very pleased with the release of the new ObservaTUR report. We are delighted that travel agencies and companies in the tourism sector now have a tool like this to anticipate the trends expected for the upcoming vacation season. We would also like to thank the agencies for participating in the surveys conducted prior to the report’s release, as your input is essential for creating a forecast that is as accurate as possible. Thank you, and we look forward to your participation next time!
